Cllr Hilary Bruce, Labour District Councillor for Fairfax and County Councillor for Bridgwater North, which includes Eastover and Sydenham, has long been campaigning for community facilities and green space across her East Bridgwater wards. A new initiative to establish a wild life group in the Bower area has recently been given a boost through support from the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust. Cllr Bruce says “A little while I started to explore whether there might be any interest in a wildlife group in Bower. A group focused on Bower Ponds (bird watches, surveys, restoring habitat for wildlife, etc.), but also a group that could have a slightly broader scope, including visiting some of the nature reserves in the local area and getting involved with creating blue/green corridors in the town. The Wildfowl and Wetland Trust have agreed to help support this idea by hosting an activities day at Bower Ponds this Saturday, which will offer those interested in this initiative an opportunity to get together and discuss various ideas.”
Hilary continues “Whilst the activities are taking place, I will be there, together with Sedgemoor District Council, and we would love to talk to you and listen to what you have to say about Bower Ponds. It’s an opportunity to celebrate a lovely urban green space and wildlife habitat. The ponds are without doubt a bit dryer than we had anticipated, but we will have some backup activities ready if pond dipping is challenged by the lack of water.
Please spread the word about this event, it is open to anyone interested in wildlife, of any age.
