£9 million luxury hotel for Bridgwater !

Work starts on £9m Luxury Hotel for Bridgwater.

Work has started on a scheme to build a £9m luxury hotel in the centre of Bridgwater that will bring new jobs, new visitors and new retail opportunities to the town.

Developers, D C Homes and Investments, have moved onto the site at the cross roads in Eastover and demolition of the old ‘Co-Op’ and other buildings there will begin next month.

D C Homes were joined on site by representatives of Sedgemoor District Council, Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), the builders, demolition company and architects for a ceremony to mark the official launch of the project.

Permission granted by the Council will see the construction of a hotel with more than 100 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar and car parking. There will also be two commercial units that could be used for shops or eateries.

The four star hotel, the first of its kind in the town, represents a significant investment in the future of Bridgwater. It signals the start of the regeneration signalled by the council’s broader plan for a Celebration Mile linking the station and the docks.

Speaking at the launch Deepak Chainrai, of DC Homes and Investments, said, ‘This is an important day for our company, our town and our district. We are thrilled to see the project get underway at last as it has been an ambition of ours for a long time to bring this kind of quality facility to Bridgwater.’

Heart of the South West Partnership Chair Steve Hindley, which contributed £4.5m to the project from the Growing Places Fund, said, ‘I am delighted to see work start on the Eastover Hotel development, it’s an important landmark in our delivery of transformational projects across the HotSW area that will boost the local economy and generate new jobs through our success with the Growing Places Fund. I look forward to seeing the work progress to create a fit for purpose, modern hotel and commercial units, which will be crucial to the area with the forthcoming development of the nearby Hinkley Point C project.’

We will keep you in the loop on the building of the hotel. There is everything to look forward to!
